The Shetland
Sheepdog is a small double coated herding
breed resembling a collie in miniature. It
is intensely loyal and equally versitile.
The Sheltie will herd sheep, ducks, etc or
will live contently in an apartment with
several walks daily. The sheltie also does
well in a small group of other shelties with
mininal problems. They are agile and excel
in performance.
The acceptable
colors of the shetland sheepdog are sable,
black, white and tan, blue merle and bi blue
and bi black.
This
breed is reserved with strangers but usually
makes friends in a short amount of time.
They are known
for their lovely expression and sweet
sheltie smile.
The long coated
breeds do require brushing often and do
shed.
Shelties make
great family pets, and do well as therapy
dogs. They really love to have a job, even
if it is fetching a tennis ball, or
following their owners around.
